The incident occurred around 05:40 in the morning at a 7-story building on Doğu Street in the Cevizli neighborhood of Maltepe. According to the information obtained, a collapse occurred on the 3rd floor of the building for reasons yet unknown.
Upon notification, AFAD, UMKE, fire department, medical, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
During the search and rescue efforts, where teams were mobilized, 8 people were pulled from the rubble alive, while 2 people recovered from the debris lost their lives.
While the teams' work at the scene has been ongoing for many hours, search operations using seismic listening devices were initiated by AFAD teams for the 3 people remaining under the rubble.
Following the intensive efforts of the teams, the lifeless body of Mesut Bilecen was reached.
