Operation against CHP postponed: 'They are trying to create a perception'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and CHP's Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu and CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik are also among the defendants in the case being heard at the Ankara 26th Criminal Court of First Instance, where they face charges of "rigging the vote", with prosecutors seeking prison sentences ranging from 1 to 3 years.

'FOOTSTEPS OF ABSOLUTE NULLITY'

While the case was opened on allegations of irregularities during the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, the ongoing debates regarding "absolute nullity" concerning the same congress have been brought back to the agenda. Hürriyet.com.tr columnist Abdülkadir Selvi headlined his piece "The footsteps of 'absolute nullity' in CHP," while a report by Umay Sena Sümer in Sabah Newspaper drew attention with the headline "Critical day in the dubious CHP congress case: Will an absolute nullity decision come?" 

'WITH THE AIM OF CREATING UNEASE'

Former SHP Chairman Murat Karayalçın spoke to 12punto about the legal process being conducted against the CHP and the claims made by media outlets close to the ruling party. 

Karayalçın stated, "I think this process will hang over the Republican People's Party like a sword of Damocles. I believe the appellate process and re-evaluation will require a long time." On the other hand, noting that this process is being maintained with the aim of creating unease within the CHP, Karayalçın said, "Using this as a threat and continuing it is done with the aim of creating unease within the ranks of the CHP. On the other hand, it is becoming difficult to keep track of the number of lawsuits, but we know what they are circling around."

'WE ENSURED THE RENEWAL OF THE WILL'

Citing the situation of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who was elected Chairman a total of 4 times by being elected in the 21st-22nd Extraordinary Congresses and the 39th Ordinary Congress following the 38th Ordinary Congress, Karayalçın commented that the possibility of any of the lawsuits resulting in a negative outcome for the CHP is "not possible," adding, "We also ensured the renewal of the will through the congresses we held. Therefore, when evaluated with the public conscience, I do not think any negative outcome will emerge."

'I DO NOT BELIEVE IT CARRIES MEANING'

Regarding Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı's claims that the congress will be cancelled, that absolute nullity will "definitely" be declared, and that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will once again become the CHP Chairman, as well as his words, "The Ekrem İmamoğlu party, which we call the October Party, is certain. The party's candidate will be Dilek İmamoğlu," Karayalçın said, "I do not believe this carries any meaning. It holds no value. What I see is that we are constantly being squeezed. In their own words, they are trying to 'shake us up.' They are trying to create a negative perception about the CHP. They will continue this."

'ELECTION IN 2027'

On the other hand, Karayalçın put forward the claim, "It is possible to say that the year 2026 will continue like this. I am of the opinion that we will head to elections in 2027. At the beginning of 2027, they will take us to elections in a way that suits their own agenda, in a way that 'takes precautions for themselves'."

'WE MUST MAKE IT A WHOLE'

Stating that the CHP is resisting in unity and that they are involving citizens in this path, Karayalçın said, "We must make the inside of our party a whole, we must ensure the solidarity of all our party members."
