Operation against loan sharks who made a 12 million TL profit: They had seized parents' promissory notes

An operation was conducted by the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau against a gang that, after recovering money lent to a private school owner with interest, forcibly seized and attempted to collect promissory notes belonging to parents at the school. Eight people, including gang leader Sinan İ., were detained in the operation. It was learned that the gang members had obtained 12 million TL in illicit gains.

Within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Terror and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau for the crimes of 'Establishing an Organization for the Purpose of Committing Crimes, Loan Sharking, and Extortion', it was learned that the owner of a private school in Istanbul borrowed 700,000 TL from the suspects in exchange for interest. In return for this loan, he provided 18 promissory notes worth 1,386,000 TL, 386,000 TL, and 77,000 TL. Additionally, it was learned that he gave the suspects 40 promissory notes worth 1,500,000 TL in exchange for loans taken at different times and transferred vehicles as collateral. The suspects later went to the private school owned by Mert K.E. and forcibly seized promissory notes belonging to the students' parents. The gang members then called the parents who owned the notes and attempted to collect on them.

THEY TOOK THE MONEY BUT DID NOT RETURN THE NOTES

The gang members did not return the promissory notes to the school owner, Mert K.E., even though he had paid the money. It was learned that the gang members, who pressured the school owner and his relatives, obtained 12 million TL in illicit gains.

Eight people, including gang leader Sinan İ., who were determined to have carried out the transfer of numerous promissory notes, vehicles, and real estate through pressure and threats, were detained in simultaneous operations in Istanbul and Ağrı. During the searches, 223 ready-to-use promissory note sheets, 64 promissory notes belonging to different individuals with a total value of 10,368,100 TL, 2 checks belonging to different individuals with a total value of 950,000 TL, and vehicle lien agreements and powers of attorney belonging to the complainants were seized. The interrogation of the gang members is ongoing.
