Operation against social media scammers

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 34 suspects who posted fake advertisements on social media, facilitated online gambling, and committed fraud under the guise of investment consulting have been apprehended by the gendarmerie.

225 MILLION LIRA SEIZED

It was reported that during the operation, assets worth 225 million lira belonging to the apprehended suspects were seized. While 14 of the 34 suspects were arrested, judicial control measures were imposed on 13 others.

Yerlikaya's statement regarding the operation is as follows:

34 suspects who posted fake advertisements on social media,

Facilitated gambling through online gambling applications,

And committed fraud under the guise of investment consulting were apprehended by our gendarmerie.

Assets worth 225 Million TL were seized.

14 were ARRESTED.

Judicial control provisions were applied to 13 of them. Proceedings for the others are ongoing.

In the operations conducted within the scope of combating cybercrime, centered in Ankara, Adana, Muğla, and Edirne, and spanning Mersin, Niğde, Gaziantep, Kocaeli, Bursa, Istanbul, Batman, Manisa, Izmir, Şanlıurfa, Kayseri, Diyarbakır, and Denizli;

It was determined that they defrauded our citizens by posting fake “motorcycle” advertisements on social media platforms,

Facilitated gambling by providing the installation of gambling game applications via internet-connected operating systems,

And defrauded our citizens by posting “investment consulting and agricultural credit” advertisements on websites; investigations have been initiated by our Public Prosecutor's Offices against the suspects.

Based on MASAK reports, approximately 225 Million TL worth of assets belonging to the suspects, including 30 residences, 6 vehicles, and 40 bank accounts, were seized.
