Opposition to the name Sırrı Süreyya Önder in the municipal council: AKP and CHP approved
A rift occurred within the People's Alliance during the January ordinary meeting of the Buca Municipal Council regarding Sırrı Süreyya Önder. While CHP and AKP council members voted in favor of the proposal to name a park after Önder, MHP council members voted against it.
The Buca Municipality January Ordinary Council Meeting was held under thechairmanship of Buca Mayor Görkem Duman.
During the meeting, a proposal submitted by Republican People's Party (CHP) Council Member İsmail Yüzer to name a park after “Sırrı Süreyya Önder” was discussed.the motion to commemorateSırrı Süreyya Önder's name in a park caused a rift betweenthe AKP and MHPcouncil members.
MHPmembers COUNCILME MBERSVOTED AGAINST
In the vote held, CHP and AKP council members voted in favor of the motion, while MHP council members voted against it.Despite MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli having been the pioneerof the peaceprocess,thefact that the MHP groupvoted "against" the motion sparked debate.
Following the discussions, the proposal to name a park inÇamlıkule after Sırrı Süreyya Önder was approved by a majority votefrom CHP and AKP members, despite the dissentingvotes cast by MHP council members.was accepted by majority vote.
