Özgür Çelik: The New Party is the party of the next government
New Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik attended the opening of his party's Sarıyer District Headquarters. Beginning his speech by greeting those in the area, Çelik stated, "We are here with you in our white shirts. We are descending in our white shirts. Because the New Party is the party of a bright future. Because the New Party is the party of clean, honest people. The New Party is the party of those who want a clean future."
Çelik said, "The New Party is not an opposition party. The New Party is Turkey's leading party. It is not the party of those stuck within the 10 or 20 percent band; it is the party of the next government. Opposition parties talk about problems; parties that want to be in power talk about solutions. We will meet with our nation with our solutions."
Özgür Çelik stated that they have been in a great resistance and struggle in the squares of Istanbul for the last 2 years, adding, "Those who could not digest us becoming Turkey's leading party as of October 30, 2024, and those who saw that they would not be able to emerge from the ballot box once it was placed in front of them, entered into an effort to design politics in our beautiful country through the judiciary." Touching upon the events that occurred during this process, Çelik noted the following:
"First, they carried out various operations against our mayors. Then they entered our Istanbul provincial building with 5,000 police officers. They dragged women on the ground and sprayed pepper gas at young people. Then they entered our party's headquarters with plastic bullets and gas bombs. We have carried out a great resistance in Istanbul during this 2-year period."
Reacting to the decision to privatize bridges along with 8 highways, Çelik said, "Those who cannot govern the country are in a rush to sell the country's revenue-generating resources and the bridges that are legacies left to us by our grandfathers; they have reached a state of selling Turkey's resources for a pittance in an effort to create an election budget."
"We will speak by meeting with our nation with our solutions"
Emphasizing his party's claim and management approach, Çelik said:
"The New Party is not an opposition party. The New Party is Turkey's leading party. The New Party is the party of those who want power. The New Party is not the party of those stuck within a 10, 15, 20, or 25 percent band. The New Party is the party of the next government. The New Party is a party that puts forward a participatory management approach. The New Party is a party that has adopted inclusive politics as its motto. The New Party is a political party that does not tell citizens about problems, but tells them about solutions. Opposition parties talk about problems; parties that want to be in power talk about solutions. We will speak by meeting with our nation with our solutions. It is the party of those who establish democracy first within their own home. In September, we will elect our members and district chairs with the votes of all our members. In October, we will elect our provincial chairs with the votes of all members. And in November, at the grand assembly, we will elect our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, with the votes of all members. This is strengthening intra-party democracy. We currently have nearly 150,000 members in Istanbul. We have over 600,000 members across Turkey. However, we have a target of 500,000 members in Istanbul alone. The New Party is the party of those who will meet with the citizens and the public on the street with humility."
"We will implement a clean, competitive democracy in these lands all together"
Reminding the audience of the promises announced by New Party Chairman Özgür Özel, Çelik continued his speech:
"We have seven promises to our nation. We are the party of solutions. We will build a democratic Turkey all together. We will ensure the separation of powers. We will ensure freedom of the press. We will place fundamental human rights under constitutional guarantee. We will ensure that Constitutional Court decisions are recognized. We will build a clean election process. We will implement a clean, competitive democracy in these lands all together. Our second promise, our second pledge to our nation; we will make a fair and free Turkey sovereign.
"We will make a strong Turkey, always strong in the defense industry and always strong in its region, sovereign"
We will ensure justice in education and access to education. We will ensure justice in access to health. We will ensure justice in income. We will ensure justice in taxation. We will ensure justice in income distribution. We will make a productive and wealthy Turkey sovereign all together. We will put an end to unemployment. We will implement a Turkey that produces and develops in agriculture, technology, and industry. We will make a strong and secure Turkey sovereign all together. We will make a strong Turkey, always strong in the defense industry and always strong in its region, sovereign. We will leave no one behind.
We will not leave any of our fellow travelers in Silivri Prison behind. We are with Ekrem İmamoğlu, our presidential candidate Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, to the end, and we will continue to be with him. We are with all our mayors and all our imprisoned fellow travelers to the end, and we will continue to be with them. We will not leave the poor, the needy, the disabled, disadvantaged groups, or low-income families behind. We will implement the social state. We will build a Turkey that offers a bright future to its children.
We will make a Turkey that offers a bright future to its youth sovereign. Today in Turkey, a young person takes an exam and gets 100 points on the KPSS. Another young person takes the exam and gets 70 points. But they go to an interview; the one with 70 points has an 'uncle' (connections) in Ankara, and they get ahead of the one with 100 or 95 points and get the job. We will put an end to the absurdity of interviews. We will make a Turkey where young people can live freely sovereign. Young people will not look for their future in other countries. And we will make a Turkey where positions are considered a trust sovereign. Everything that has happened to this country has happened because of those who cling to their seats. They cling to their seats and do not want to let go ever again."
