Özgür Demirtaş makes a call regarding the graduation ceremony scandal

Demirtaş uses his social media account actively. Making a name for himself not only with his economic forecasts but also with his comments on current issues, Demirtaş this time shared a post regarding the high school graduation ceremony scandal.

The footage of female students who were not allowed into the graduation ceremony organized for students at Alaettin Kurt Anatolian High School, located in the Kirazpınar neighborhood of the Gebze district of Kocaeli, due to their attire, caused an uproar.

While the school administration's practice was criticized, especially on social media, economist Özgür Demirtaş also shared a post regarding the scandal.

Students, who were forced to hold their graduation ceremonies in the schoolyard due to a circular issued by the Ministry of National Education, gathered in front of the school in the graduation outfits they had purchased days in advance.

Some female students who came to the school for the graduation ceremony were not allowed into the ceremony on the grounds that they were wearing clothes that violated the regulations.

While the doors were closed to the students, some parents and students reacted to the school administration. An argument broke out between the parents and the school administration.

School principal Ahmet Korkmaz also came to the school gate and requested that the students not be allowed inside. Upon the report made due to the tension, a gendarmerie team was dispatched to the school.

Numerous reactions were shown to the victimization of students and parents on such a special day. One reaction to the scandal came from Özgür Demirtaş. Demirtaş wrote the following on his social media account:

"The Republic of Turkey is a SECULAR-Social state of LAW.

It is governed by the Constitution.

The school principal did not allow the students into the school, using their attire as an excuse. He must be IMMEDIATELY removed from his post.

I know that the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of National Education will do their duty. Come on, PLEASE."
