Özgür Özel's call to Erdoğan for an Istanbul election: 'If you win, I will quit politics'

Özgür Özel issued an election call to President Erdoğan at the rally they held in Bağcılar. Özel stated that he would quit politics if he were defeated.

Stating that he would resign from his post as CHP Chairman following a possible election defeat, Özgür Özel challenged Erdoğan in Bağcılar.

"I am announcing it from here. At the end of March, I am ready to have all my municipal council members resign in Istanbul, and if you are willing to do the same, I am ready to renew all municipal elections in Istanbul," said Özel, who continued as follows:

"My candidate is clear: Ekrem İmamoğlu. Whichever one you trust; you fielded a Prime Minister and we won, you fielded a Parliament Speaker and we won, you fielded this incompetent, empty-promising Murat Kurum, this mafia-like Murat, and we won.

Whoever you trust, whoever you trust, my candidate is Ekrem İmamoğlu. Whether it's TikToker Hakan, or a son-in-law, or a son, whoever you field against us, let Istanbul make the decision. If you win the election, we will quit politics, but if Mayor Ekrem wins the election, we want you to get off our backs. I challenge you!"
