Özgür Özel draws attention to that report: 'Berat Albayrak is hitting Mehmet Şimşek over the head through Yeni Şafak'
CHP leader Özgür Özel, regarding the lawsuit filed to cancel his party's convention, said, "We held another convention with the same delegates. For the first time in party history, a chairman's key list passed without being breached. What more are they talking about? There is no platform left in politics to open that convention to debate. A move made to make it look like there is chaos within the party has failed." Stating that "those looking for turmoil within the party should read Yeni Şafak," Özel recalled the reports targeting Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek published by Yeni Şafak, which is linked to Berat Albayrak, the son-in-law of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel visited Constitutional Court (AYM) President Kadir Özkaya and the deputy presidents.
Following the visit, Özel made statements to journalists in front of the AYM.
Özel, who spoke to reporters in front of the AYM, stated that they discussed the irregularities in the HSK elections and the rector appointments with Özkaya.
Regarding the cancellation lawsuit against the CHP convention, which was postponed to June 30, Özel noted the following:
"These hearings are process-oriented, not result-oriented. They are trying to make the CHP a subject of debate and stir up trouble. It was claimed that 1,200 mobile phones were distributed. Some people are managing a process based on the words of 3-5 eccentrics regarding absurd issues for which there is not a single shred of proof.
We held another convention with the same delegates. For the first time in party history, a chairman's key list passed without being breached. What more are they talking about? There is no platform left in politics to open that convention to debate. A move made to make it look like there is chaos within the party has failed."
Continuing his speech, Özel recalled the report by the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak targeting Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek and said:
"Those looking for turmoil within the party should read Yeni Şafak. First between the lines, and then column by column, they have been hitting Mehmet Şimşek.
Whose is Yeni Şafak? It belongs to the son-in-law. The son-in-law is taking jabs and hitting Mehmet Şimşek over the head through Yeni Şafak. Therefore, for those curious about turmoil within the party, the CHP has lost its former appeal. I recommend the AKP. I am following these developments in Yeni Şafak."
