Özgür Özel explains how journalist Alican Uludağ was detained: 'In front of his children...'
CHP leader Özgür Özel spoke with Kıymet Uludağ, the wife of detained journalist Alican Uludağ. Making a statement after the call, Özel said, "Taking Alican Uludağ from his home in front of his young children is an act of tyranny. He must be released."
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke by phone with Kıymet Uludağ, the wife of DW Türkçe Ankara correspondent Alican Uludağ, who was detained over his social media posts.
During the call, Özel stated that the detention of Alican Uludağ was incompatible with the rule of law and conveyed that the process would be closely monitored.
CHP Chairman Özel later made the following statement on his social media account:
"The detention of journalist Alican Uludağ due to social media posts that fall within the scope of journalistic activity is a new link in the chain of lawlessness. Taking Alican Uludağ from his home, in front of his young children, without even allowing him to change his clothes, is an act of tyranny. Alican Uludağ must be released.
We will continue to defend media freedom and the most fundamental human rights, and to stand by independent journalists."
