Özgür Özel makes statement at Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality: 'If 1 lira is found, I will quit politics'

Detention warrants were issued for 47 people, including Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, and Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara.

ÖZEL ARRIVES IN GAZİOSMANPAŞA

CHP leader Özgür Özel, who came to Istanbul following the 'The Nation Protects Its Will' rally held in Düzce, made statements at the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality.

Highlights from Özel's speech are as follows:

"I greet you all with respect, you honest, honorable, and brave people of Gaziosmanpaşa who stand behind the young mayor you elected from all political views, who stand behind your vote.

Today is not the first, and it is clear it will not be the last. We are witnessing the continuation of the conspiracy against our mayors, our council members, and Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Metropolitan Mayor of Istanbul who has been elected three times in a row in the last 6 years, starting from the first conspiracy they attempted to appoint a trustee to our Esenyurt Municipality, which they could not win from the CHP through elections, exactly 213 days ago."

"IF 1 LIRA IS FOUND, I WILL QUIT POLITICS"

"We won the elections in a process that some belittled, asking 'Will the CHP win Gaziosmanpaşa too?', and as a result of the struggle against the objections of those who could not believe this, we protected the will of Gaziosmanpaşa and received the certificate of election. We are trying to fight against the evils of an understanding that tries to obtain the municipality it could not win through trustees and slander.

They took Mayor Hakan from his home today; there is nothing.

Every municipality has a safe, and there is one here too.

They made news reports with images they found on the internet.

What came out of the safe was the municipal seal and a hard drive left over from the previous municipal administration.

There is not a single penny. I am calling out to the General Manager of TRT and those who broadcast those images. If 1 lira is found there, I will quit politics today."
