Özgür Özel meets with CHP deputies in Istanbul: 'It's not just one action'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel met with CHP deputies in Istanbul. Following the meeting, Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır made a statement on behalf of the CHP.

Başarır said, “We have made some decisions with our colleagues. It will not be just one action; we will have multiple actions during this process. It will be a process involving not just one rally, but multiple rallies. We will take more general, tougher, and more significant steps.” Regarding President Tayyip Erdoğan’s remarks, “I never received a red card in my 20-year football career,” Başarır commented, “I wish we could check the VAR records.”

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır spoke to reporters after the meeting, which was held regarding the agenda of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, who was arrested and removed from office.

Stating that there was a complete lack of rule of law from the detention procedures to the arrest decision, Başarır said the following:

“Lawlessness, mobbing, and pressure continue. First, one prison. Then another, Paşakapısı Prison. His room is changed at Paşakapısı Prison. In the middle of the night, just as our mayor is about to sleep, they say, ‘We changed our minds, we are taking you from here to Silivri.’ Look at Metris, Paşakapısı, Silivri. Forget about a mayor; there is no other citizen in Turkey experiencing this, but this is the state of law, prisons, and justice in Turkey—prisons are under the Ministry of Justice. We are ashamed of this. We are truly saddened by what we are experiencing; Turkey is sad. We have made some decisions with our colleagues. It will not be just one action; we will have multiple actions during this process. It will be a process involving not just one rally, but multiple rallies. We will take more general, tougher, and more significant steps. In other words, this process will be a process of taking over the government. Once again, as our Chairman said, we underline this. Today was a very productive meeting with our deputies. Parliament is not in session next week. That is why it was valuable for them to be in Istanbul.”

When asked about the AKP Chairman Erdoğan’s remarks regarding the CHP, Başarır said, “We are already fighting against a system of robbery. We looked at his statements. He has again spent his time dealing with the CHP, outside of the country's problems and agenda. We are not fighting with the radishes in his satchel, but for a long time, we have been fighting against many uglinesses in his own satchel, primarily shoe boxes and bribery contracts. This is our concern, but we are fighting against real corruption, against those who are truly robbing this country. He, on the other hand, wants to do this through dirty investigations and prosecutions by casting the stain on them onto us. That is the difference.”

Responding to Erdoğan’s remarks regarding the CHP’s red card protest, “I never received a red card in my 20-year football career,” Başarır said, “I wish we could check the VAR records.”

“WE WILL SEE BY LIVING IT STARTING FROM MONDAY”

Expressing that the poverty suffered by millions of retirees, workers, and civil servants was also discussed at the meeting, Başarır stated, “Millions of people are starving below the hunger threshold. That is why we presented this process as a whole. We have filled all our actions within it and said that the steps we will take from now on are a process of taking over the government. That is why we will all see these by living them starting from Monday.”
