Özgür Özel's 'it would be shameful' reaction to CHP mayor: 'Let it be a nazar boncuğu'
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel gave a speech at the 102nd Anniversary Celebration Ceremony of the Mudanya Armistice, organized by the municipality at Mütareke Square in the Mudanya district of Bursa. Özel reacted to the music played as he took the stage.
Özel came to Bursa to attend the events marking the 102nd anniversary of the Mudanya Armistice. Attending the final day of the events, which have been ongoing since October 3 under the title 'We have a signature on the foundation-9 DAYS: THE ROAD TO PEACE', Özel reacted to Mudanya Mayor Deniz Dalgıç, who is from his own party.
Reacting to the party music being played as he began his speech, Özel said, "First of all, I would like to start my words with an apology and by correcting a shortcoming. The song that played while I was coming to the podium is a song we really like when it plays at our party meetings. This is a public space; this is a municipal event. You see the opposite, I know. The distinction between state and party has disappeared."

Continuing his remarks, Özel stated the following:
"The country's president is the chairman of another party, and unfortunately, this intertwining sometimes makes us commit these mistakes as well. However, the Republican People's Party, starting with Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, whom we will mention shortly, along with İsmet Paşa, founded the republic, founded the state, and founded democracy.
"I AM PINNING THIS FLAW ON THE MAYOR AS A NAZAR BONCUĞU"
Even when there was no other party, it made it a principle to separate state and party affairs, and ultimately, it transitioned to a multi-party regime and handed the country over to democracy. As the party of people with this understanding, setting aside bad examples, we will be very careful about these matters in public spaces where all political parties are invited. I am pinning this flaw on the lapel of our very successful Mudanya Mayor as a tiny nazar boncuğu (evil eye bead). If you play it again when I am leaving, this time it would be shameful. Mr. Mayor, you will embarrass me; set up some other music," he said.
