Özgür Özel's 'I'll be dishonorable if I forget' reaction to Hatay Governor: 'It's not a threat, it's a warning'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel addressed the public in the Defne district of Hatay. During the second-anniversary commemoration for February 6 in Hatay, all entry and exit points to the official memorial site were closed off with barricades. Citizens who confronted the police were detained. Reacting to this incident, Özel also criticized Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı.

Özgür Özel's 'I'll be dishonorable if I forget' reaction to Hatay Governor: 'It's not a threat, it's a warning'

Stating that citizens in Hatay are breathing in asbestos, but that roads were paved three days before ministers arrived for the commemoration, Özel also reacted to the detentions made during the Silent March. Özel said, "I will be dishonorable if I forget these things you have done."

While explaining that Hatay has many problems, Özel also touched upon the asbestos spreading from destroyed houses and the insufficiency of the on-site transformation loan, which is 750 thousand liras. Stating that their proposal was 1.5 million, Özel conveyed that citizens have been in containers for two years.

Saying, "Citizens in Hatay are living in asbestos, but they are paving the roads 2-3 days before the ministers arrive," he reacted to Hatay Governor Masatlı:

"There is an administration where those who want to hold a silent march are detained. I am telling the heartless Hatay Governor, who has turned into an apparatus of the ruling party and is collaborating to steal the will of Hatay: I have not forgotten you either. I will not forget. I will not let it be forgotten.

'IT'S NOT A THREAT, IT'S A WARNING'

What they did on election night, what they did at last year's commemoration, what they did to the people of Hatay this year, and their partisanship are all on my mind.

Continue to stand not with the nation, but with those who oppress it. Let it be Özgür Özel's duty to hold you accountable as well.

I am not threatening the Hatay Governor, I am warning him. I am saying that I will be dishonorable if I forget these things you have done."

Stating that Defne is one of the districts that gives the highest number of votes to the CHP, Özel also apologized to the people of Defne for the previous term's mayor, İbrahim Güzel. Expressing that they had made a wrong appointment, Özel said, "He made us experience a period that embarrassed us. Afterwards, we determined the right candidate."
