Özgür Özel reacts to RTÜK fines: 'We will make a statement in front of RTÜK this evening'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel answered questions from members of the press at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

Özel reacted to the fines raining down on media organizations by the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK). He said, "They are firing at democracy from the RTÜK building."

Using the expression, "Today, they have come out and taken this unlawful decision. They are capable of every evil," Özgür Özel said the following:

'THE NATION REPELLED THIS COUP'

"As you know, the coup plotters attempted a coup on July 15. They were later repelled. We then saw that this coup had many legs. The coup had a judicial leg, a media leg. They were making us debate a non-existent MASAK report. Every leg of this judiciary existed, and one leg was tweeting; 'If you do this, I will cancel your license.' As if they had such a duty. The RTÜK leg of the coup has also come out today and taken this unlawful decision. They are capable of every evil. The coup was suppressed back then, but the resisting coup units were still trying to stage a coup the next day. I see the RTÜK President in this same light. Despite the coup attempt being suppressed and repelled by the nation, he is still firing at democracy from the RTÜK building, wondering if this coup can still succeed. This coup has been suppressed, friends. The nation repelled it."
