Özgür Özel reacts to the investigation launched against Vedat Milor: 'May God set them straight!'
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has reacted to the investigation launched by the Ministry of Trade against food critic Vedat Milor on the grounds of 'covert advertising' after he visited a Kent Lokantası (City Restaurant) and filmed a video there.
An investigation has been launched by the Ministry of Trade against Vedat Milor, who visited a Kent Lokantası run by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) and posted a video on his YouTube account, on the grounds that he engaged in 'covert advertising.' A written defense has been requested from Milor.
Reactions to the investigation have snowballed. Following the reaction from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who stated, "I learned that an investigation has been opened against some writers who visited the Kent Lokantası. First they mocked it, then they belittled it, and now they are going after those who visit. It's a shame. These restaurants are the palaces of the poor, the low-income, and the retirees. More will be opened," another reaction came from CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.
'MAY GOD SET THEM STRAIGHT'
Appearing as a guest on NOW TV, Özel could not hide his astonishment when he learned about the investigation into Milor. Özel said, "The Kent Lokantası does not need advertising. There is a queue in front of it. May God set them straight."
Özel made the following remarks:
"Good heavens... May God set them straight. What can I say? May God set them straight. There is no need for advertising at the Kent Lokantası. There is a queue, a queue! There is a queue in front of the Kent Lokantası. We can't keep up, we can't keep up, and we tell our friends this,
Look, please do something like this: Let those who truly need to benefit from the Kent Lokantası do so, either through these social assistance cards or through their national ID numbers that indicate their social status. Because, for example, at one point they were saying about the Kent Lokantası, 'Will it harm the local tradesmen?' When they first opened, the tradesmen were a bit uneasy. Later they said, 'On the contrary, it brought activity, this happened, that happened.'
But the main thing is this: You drink a bowl of soup at a tradesman's restaurant. Here, there is a four-course meal for half that price. Yes. It is impossible for those people to go and drink half a bowl of soup with that money anyway.
The Kent Lokantası doesn't need advertising, look, it just happened to coincide. There is a queue in front of it. Now, it is opening all over Turkey, and it will continue to open. Mayor Ekrem branded this, and we are opening them all over Turkey under the same name. Our friends are trying to open new ones with all their might because they are very different things. For example, when I went to the Kent Lokantası, if I'm not mistaken, where was it? It was in Ereğli.
He said, 'I have a request.' He said, 'Why only at noon?' He said, 'Let it be between noon and evening.' He said, 'Let's get two meals out of one.' Think about it, they have money for one meal, they want it to be at 4:00 PM. They will have breakfast in the morning, and eat there at 4:00 PM for 50 liras, and get through two meals at once. This is the request of a retiree. A husband and wife had come and were eating there. You won't create an opportunity for your retiree to fill their stomach when they need to at home or outside, and then you will launch an investigation because the Kent Lokantası was praised. May God give them some sense!"
