Özgür Özel responds to 'insults against Erdoğan's mother' claims: 'I consider it an insult to my own mother'

Following a series of posts regarding 'profanity' from AKP figures such as Ömer Çelik, Fahrettin Altun, and Yılmaz Tunç, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel issued a statement in response. 

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik had stated, "We condemn those who uttered insults against our President, his late mother, and his family during the demonstrations in Istanbul. The behavior of these people, who lack dignity, will not go unanswered. Those who encourage these immoral provocateurs will also be buried under the weight of this immoral provocation. Those who have been preparing the ground for aggression by using a poisonous language for days have branded themselves with the label of this immoral provocation. We state it clearly: those who commit and encourage this aggressive immorality will find us and the national will standing against them in the most determined and uncompromising manner."

"I CONSIDER IT AN INSULT TO MY OWN MOTHER"

Following the series of posts, Özgür Özel wrote the following on his social media account:

"I CONSIDER THAT PROFANITY TO BE AN INSULT TO MY OWN MOTHER.

We conduct our politics and express our objections with clean language. Anyone who speaks ill of a politician's family or uses profanity is not one of us.

It is unacceptable to confuse protest with insult. Using profanity, especially against a family or a mother, is never acceptable. I consider that profanity to be an insult to my own mother.

Let no one confuse those who use this profanity with those who are defending the national will in Saraçhane, who want a democratic Turkey, and who are engaging in peaceful protest.

Let no one attempt to resist the justified reaction of millions with perception operations over this.

Do not devalue the nation's objection through the rudeness of a few ignorant people!"
