Özgür Özel's statements on Zeydan Karalar and Nagehan Alçı: He spoke in the earthquake zone

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made evaluations regarding the release decision granted to Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar. Özel also reacted to journalist Nagehan Alçı's remarks directed at earthquake survivors.

Özel was a guest on a live broadcast of Halk TV in Adıyaman, the fifth stop of his visit, and made important statements regarding the agenda.

FIRST REACTION FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel began his remarks with an evaluation of the release decision granted to Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar.

Stating that Karalar had been unjustly detained for 8.5 months, Özel said, "The decision made today is a correct decision, but what was done before was unjust."

Özel said the following:

"An unjust state of detention has come to an end. Zeydan Karalar has been detained for 212 days. While it was wrong for him to be occupied with these allegations for even 212 minutes, instead of serving Adana for 212 minutes, he was deprived for 212 days, for 7 months, of the Adana he cared for like his own eyes and loved like his own child. Adana was deprived of him.

The decision made today is ultimately the right decision, but what was done before, what was done for 212 days, was wrong. 11 years ago, Zeydan Karalar was making payments for a tender issued by the municipality before him. They say; 'he wasn't receiving payments regularly, you asked for something from him, you associated him with someone, and then he received it.' Zeydan Karalar revealed from the first day that; from the day he became mayor until the day alleged, he had been receiving them in the same order, and he continued to receive them in the same order afterwards. Interestingly, when the tender ended, he didn't give a tender there again and started doing those jobs himself.

But when the goal is to trip up the legend of Zeydan Karalar in Adana; when the goal is to trip up Ekrem İmamoğlu's march to the Presidency and the CHP's march to power, they even took away the mayor who was elected with the full consensus of a province, receiving more than one out of every two votes in this earthquake city, and then put him under house arrest. I mean, they even told Abdurrahman Tutdere, who runs for Adıyaman 20 hours out of 24 in Adıyaman, 'sit at home, don't serve Adıyaman' for a while.

There is no good intention here, there is no law. Otherwise, the evaluation today is already a technical evaluation. Even if they gave the sentence requested for Zeydan Karalar, there was no time left to serve anyway. Why? The date the crime is alleged to have occurred, when you say COVID amnesty, there is no time to serve anyway.

Essentially, on February 20, after the first phase of this trial, there will be a decision based on a legal evaluation. Other than that, I do not expect an interim decision until February 20."

REACTION FROM ÖZEL TO NAGEHAN ALÇI

Özel reacted to journalist Nagehan Alçı's expressions of 'complacency' regarding earthquake survivors. Özel said the following:

"There is desperation in their containers. No one wants to stay there in the middle of winter. Some have been assigned a house, but their job has been ruined, how can they move out? If a man has no money, how can he move into a house? I don't want to make a bad comment about a journalist, but let's invite her to live in these conditions for a week. It would offend God. One day you might find your own mother or father in that container. Do not report from A Haber studios without knowing the situation of those in these containers. We are talking about a humanitarian issue."
