Özgür Özel tells Yılmaz Özdil 'they will make you eat those words about backing down': Response was swift

Speaking on a Sözcü TV broadcast regarding the attack he was subjected to in Istanbul, Özel reacted to journalist Yılmaz Özdil, who had said he was wandering around like a 'pear' following the attack. Criticizing Sözcü TV for airing those images, Özel said, "He says that Özgür Özel backed down; they will make you eat those words about backing down. A person can sit in that chair here while using insulting language instead of using my name. He should be warned, something should be said."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked in Istanbul last Sunday. It was revealed that the attacker, Selçuk Tengioğlu, had previously served 16 years in prison for murdering his two children. Tengioğlu, who was taken into custody after the attack, was arrested.

HE HAD SAID "HE IS WANDERING AROUND LIKE A PEAR"

Journalist Yılmaz Özdil, in his commentary on the attack on Sözcü TV, stated that there was no security weakness and that party leaders like to walk in such crowds to "create a buzz."

Yılmaz Özdil also used the phrase "He is wandering around like a pear" for CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

Özgür Özel reacted to Yılmaz Özdil, who called him a "pear."

Özel used the following expressions;

"There is a funeral. I am ashamed to be in front of the funeral. They target my wife's house and my daughter's address on television, and that know-it-all hero brother asks if Özgür Özel is backing down. He says Özgür Özel backed down; they will make you eat those words about backing down. He says don't send him empty-handed. A person can sit in that chair here while using insulting language instead of using my name. He should be warned, something should be said! The man who made that criticism you mentioned, that 1 person did it, and some people tried to get mobilized by that one person's insult. If the roof under which that person did that remains silent while a country's main opposition leader is addressed by a nickname that person made up instead of his name, then I have nothing to say."

RESPONSE FROM YILMAZ ÖZDİL TO ÖZEL WAS SWIFT

Following Özgür Özel's reaction, Yılmaz Özdil made a post on his social media account.

Özdil said, "I think Özgür Özel explained how much he loves me on Sözcü television, I was outside and couldn't watch it, but there is something he forgot; there are reasons—which the public doesn't know but will inevitably learn—why I love him so much, so our love is not without reason."
