Özgür Özel's reaction to Erdoğan on trade with Israel: 'It is continuing at full speed'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel began his speech by stating that Trabzon's most crowded historical rally was taking place. Özel stated, "We came here today to take action against the coup carried out against your son."

He commemorated the late former CHP Chairman Altan Öymen, who passed away, saying, "We lost Altan Öymen, who stood tall and defended his party despite being 92 years old. Our hearts are aching."

"Altan Öymen, from his youth, had the love for the journalism profession instilled in his heart along with his good education. He served at Ulus, Milliyet, and Cumhuriyet newspapers; above all, if this struggle is happening, it is because the freedom rallies for Ekrem İmamoğlu in Saraçhane, Maltepe, and this 38th one have not been censored. He is the founder of ANKA News Agency, which is broadcasting this today. I commemorate with gratitude and mercy our Chairman, who went to the party on May 15, 1950, after the CHP lost the elections on May 14, 1950, and served in very important roles including the Chairmanship for 75 years, with a heart that beat for the CHP. Trabzon is both sad and angry. Their sons Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mehmet Murat Çalık, and Hasan Akgün are watching their fellow citizens from their cells. Our IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who carries the bravery of Trabzon and the spirit of the Black Sea in his heart, our mayors, bureaucrats, and our fellow traveler have been imprisoned unjustly and unlawfully.

But know that the one who is truly imprisoned is injustice itself. The handcuffs placed on us have been placed on democracy itself.

Neither I, nor Mayor Ekrem, nor any soldier of this cause has bowed down to our people, and they will not.

We are those who have engraved the words “Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation” in their hearts. These dark days will pass. The Republic entrusted to us by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk will continue on the path he drew. This country will sooner or later reach the level of contemporary civilization, I have no doubt about that.

My dear fellow citizens, my brothers, you are people known for your bravery, your conscience, and who always stand tall behind your decisions.

Today, as a brother of yours with a free conscience and a head held high from Silivri, I have a call to you. Come, let's stop this darkness together. Let's be the voice of right, law, and justice. Let's be united, let's be brothers. Let's stand shoulder to shoulder. Because this case does not only concern one person, one party, or one city.

This case is Turkey's case of conscience, it is the case of what kind of country our children and grandchildren will live in. We will bring spring to this country together.

Thousands of citizens filled the area with Ekrem İmamoğlu's posters and Turkish flags in their hands. Ekrem İmamoğlu's wife, Dilek İmamoğlu, also took the floor at the rally.

Dilek İmamoğlu addressed the thousands of citizens from Trabzon, who are her fellow citizens, with the following statements:
