PACE Turkey Rapporteur makes 'Öcalan' request following Bahçeli's call
While the repercussions of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's call regarding terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan continue, it has been learned that Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Turkey Rapporteur Stefan Schennach will apply to meet with Öcalan. It is noteworthy that Stefan Schennach's request came immediately after Bahçeli's call.
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call for terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to "come and speak in Parliament" and his reiteration of the 'right to hope' continues to remain on the agenda.
"I WILL APPLY TO VISIT ÖCALAN"
Following Bahçeli's call, it has been learned that Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Turkey Rapporteur Stefan Schennach will apply to meet with Öcalan.
Schennach, who visited prisons in Turkey between June 11-14, alleged in the report he prepared that violations were occurring in the prisons.
Terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan was also included in Schennach's report.
Speaking to the Mezopotamya Agency regarding the report, Schennach stated that he would apply to meet with Öcalan and added the following:
"Isolation in prison is contrary to human rights and is on the same level as torture. I will also apply to visit the prisoner Öcalan."
Stating that he would visit prisons in Turkey again in January, Schennach also had the trustees appointed to DEM Party municipalities on his agenda.
Stating that trustees are unacceptable, Schennach "Elected mayors are elected mayors. The government cannot leave the will of the people to chance; it must accept democracy" he said.
ECHR DECISIONS
Stating that Turkey does not implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Schennach said, "In all my meetings with the government and parties, I insisted on the implementation of the ECHR decision, and I will continue to insist. The Committee of Ministers also insists on the implementation of the decisions."
