Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew made significant remarks at a ceremony held in Athens to mark the 35th anniversary of his election to the Patriarchal throne.

Speaking about the future of the Halki Seminary, which has been closed for years and whose status has frequently been on the agenda of international politics, Bartholomew announced that the school will resume operations in September with a "magnificent opening."

Emphasizing that the countdown for the opening of the seminary has begun, Patriarch Bartholomew pointed to the ongoing restoration process and stated, "The comprehensive renovation work on the school complex will be completed in the coming months. We will celebrate the opening in September."

A historic decision

The process of reopening the Halki Seminary was also one of the most important agenda items in the bilateral meeting between Bartholomew and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Evaluating the developments during the meeting, Prime Minister Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction with the step taken, saying, "The positive news you have shared with us regarding the reopening of the Halki Seminary is extremely important. I know this is a historic decision you have long desired."
