Peer bullying and that video back in the spotlight following the Atlas murder: They beat him with kicks and punches

Following the recent murder of a 17-year-old boy named Atlas, peer bullying and the social media posts regarding this issue have returned to the agenda.

One of these is the footage of assault and verbal abuse that took place at a high school in the Karadeniz Ereğli district of Zonguldak.

Footage of an 11th-grade student at a high school in Zonguldak's Karadeniz Ereğli district being forced by classmates to perform game figures and push-ups, being assaulted, and subjected to insults was shared on social media in previous years and drew significant backlash. The student's family had filed a criminal complaint regarding the matter.

An investigation was also launched by the District Governorate. Four students were summoned to the police station to provide statements on the grounds that they were involved in the assault. The students, who were referred to the disciplinary board by the school administration, received a 10-day suspension.

However, the increase in peer bullying over the years and the fact that children have begun killing one another indicate that interventions have remained insufficient and that complaints filed have not yielded results.
