Penalties for 11,591 drivers using unauthorized sirens
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that as of December 19, 2024, legal action has been taken against 11,591 drivers for using unauthorized sirens.
It has been learned that the number of penal actions taken against drivers for the use of unauthorized sirens has decreased significantly following the new regulation that came into effect on November 30, 2024.
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya noted in a statement on his social media account that a total of 11,591 drivers had been processed as of December 19, 2024, and that this figure represents a 67 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
PENALTY INCREASES AND SANCTIONS UNDER THE NEW LAW
As of 2024, drivers using unauthorized sirens are subject to a traffic administrative fine of 96,000 TL, their driver's licenses are suspended for 30 days, and their vehicles are prohibited from traffic for 30 days. Furthermore, more severe penalties are applied to drivers who repeat the same violation within the last year; sanctions such as a 192,000 TL fine, a 60-day suspension of the driver's license, and a 60-day prohibition of the vehicle from traffic are implemented each time.
449,734 ACTIONS TAKEN DURING INSPECTIONS
Minister Yerlikaya also touched upon traffic inspections across Turkey, announcing that 2 million 764 thousand 210 vehicles were checked during the inspections conducted between December 12 and 19. In these inspections, 110,333 drivers speeding, 24,259 vehicles without periodic inspection, 22,052 drivers not using seat belts, 12,306 individuals driving without a license, and 8,341 vehicles without mandatory financial liability insurance were identified, with action taken against a total of 449,734 vehicles.
Minister Yerlikaya stated that inspections will continue to be intensified to further increase traffic safety.
