People's Alliance Ankara candidate Turgut Altınok still has not disclosed his assets: 'When I want to...'

People's Alliance Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) mayoral candidate and Keçiören Mayor Turgut Altınok distributed carnations to doctors and healthcare workers on duty at Etlik City Hospital on the occasion of March 14 Medicine Day.

"WE HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE"

Following his remarks, when asked by journalists when he would disclose his assets, Altınok stated the following:

"I say the verse there. I say everything belongs to Allah. Do objective journalism. I say that when I became mayor, news reports were made saying 'Ankara's richest mayor.' I will disclose my assets in the near future. You will hear it when I want you to. Let everyone look at the hidden assets of others. There is nothing Altınok hides or conceals. My assets have decreased since I became mayor, with documents... Therefore, thieves have no right to throw mud at honest people. Altınok's life is pure, clear, and clean.

Let the general managers in the companies disclose their assets. Ours are all recorded, and we will disclose them soon, when I want to. We have nothing to hide. The honorable Ankara Metropolitan Mayor needs to disclose other things as well. He also needs to disclose the money he is currently spending on his campaign. Where did this money come from? The cost of this campaign is 2-2.5 billion liras. It is not a campaign that can be run with 100-120 thousand liras in an account."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Participating in a Habertürk broadcast, Altınok had used the expressions, "When I was a candidate in '94, a newspaper headline read 'Ankara's richest mayor.' The property is not ours, it is Allah's; we are just trustees."

Following Altınok's failure to disclose his assets, Mansur Yavaş said the following in recent days:

"I have once again become the first metropolitan mayoral candidate to disclose my assets with all their details. What was it when I started the duty, and what is it now? All of these are written down. Despite us announcing this, there is still no sound from our opponents. 

You heard it again yesterday, he said, 'I will do it, I will handle it.' I guess he is busy counting the apartments. I mean, this shouldn't be a very difficult thing. Whatever your asset declaration is, you bring it out. We no longer want municipalities to be associated with corruption. Otherwise, we are ashamed to say 'We are mayors.' 

When our duty ends, we want to walk among the public with a clean conscience, with our heads held high. That is the situation. That is why I am saying it again; disclose it as soon as possible, let everyone see, who has what? I expect a demand from you on this matter as well. Wherever you see them, voice this to the candidates themselves."
