According to a report by the Times Live website, the request from the individual, who wanted to open an account at a bank branch in the Westonaria district of Gauteng province, left employees stunned.

The unnamed customer, who wanted to open a bank account, tried to offer their barn owl instead of money for the account opening.

Surprised by the request, the bank employees turned down the customer's demand, stating that they could only accept legal tender.

Bank officials reported that following this development, they contacted the Owl Rescue Centre, which took the barn owl from the owner.
