Person who attacked 'Cübbeli Ahmet' released

Cübbeli was most recently attacked while leaving a religious talk event he attended in İkitelli, Istanbul. Ahmet Ünlü, who was attacked by having his throat grabbed, filed a complaint, after which the assailant was caught and taken into custody.

Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü's lawyer, Emir Akpınar, announced in a post on his social media account in the evening that the assailant, who had been taken into custody following the incident, had been released.

Emir Akpınar stated the following in his announcement:

"We have learned with regret that the suspect named Ali A., who was taken into custody following the heinous attack carried out against our client Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü on 07/09/2024 after he left a talk, has been released. Our efforts to be involved in the investigation file from the very first day have remained inconclusive due to the 'confidentiality order' that we were told had been issued.

The fact that the perpetrator of this despicable act—which has affected the public to such a grave degree, carries a provocative nature far greater than the physical consequences of the attack, and which would have brought about a great danger had it not been for the timely intervention of our protection police, which in turn led the investigative authorities to immediately issue a confidentiality order—has been released in such a short time is extremely thought-provoking, legally problematic, and exceptionally detrimental to public safety.

I declare that we will use our legal rights to the fullest extent against this decision, which makes the life safety of our esteemed Cübbeli Ahmet Hodja and the social chaos that is being attempted to be created appear as a trivial matter."

In a post made on Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü's social media account regarding the release of the attacker, the following expressions were used: "Even the deaf sultan has heard that Cübbeli Hodja supports the government. So, have those who claim that the government supports Cübbeli heard that the man who grabbed Cübbeli Hodja's throat has been released?!!!"
