Petition submitted to court: MHP targets 154 people
In the Sinan Ateş case, the MHP, whose request to join as a "victim" was rejected by the court, targeted numerous politicians, academics, and journalists in a petition submitted to the court. The list of 154 people, described in the petition as "members of separatist, liberal, Marxist, and FETÖ structures," includes 12punto journalists Caner Taşpınar and Ersin Eroğlu, as well as legal expert Ruşen Gültekin and researcher/academic Onur Alp Yılmaz.
In the trial for the assassination of former Ülkü Ocakları (Idealist Hearths) President Sinan Ateş in Ankara, held between July 1 and 5, the MHP's request to join the case as a "victim" was rejected.
Cumhuriyet columnist Barış Terkoğlu covered the details of the MHP's petition in his column.
The relevant section of Terkoğlu's article is as follows:
EQUATED MHP WITH TURKISHNESS
After stating that Atatürk founded the Republic on the idea of nationalism, that nationalism was pushed to the background after Atatürk's death, that nationalism found its place in politics with Alparslan Türkeş founding the MHP, and that Bahçeli adapted nationalism to the modern era, the following expressions were used: “The position held by the MHP disturbs many different segments that have designs on Turkey.”
In the petition, the MHP is defined as follows: “The MHP is the representative of the ancient story of the Turkish nation and is the current address and institutional center of historical experience.”
According to this definition, “criticism of the MHP” is considered “criticism of the Turkish nation”!
In the MHP's petition, those who criticize the MHP over the Sinan Ateş murder are described as follows: “Members of separatist, liberal, Marxist, and FETÖ structures are systematically and consistently slandering the MHP through posts, news, and articles that are in alliance with various global powers and are also in line with their political dispositions.”
MHP lawyers İbrahim Ethem Yiğit and Çağrı Can Pak also submitted a hard drive to the court, consisting mostly of television programs. Based on this, they provided a list of 154 people they claimed were “attacking the MHP.” They requested that these 154 people be summoned to court, their statements be taken, and, so to speak, they be asked, “What is your problem with the MHP?” Interestingly, the majority of the 154 people whom the MHP refers to as “members of separatist, liberal, Marxist, and FETÖ structures” are not only not Marxist or liberal, but are also known for their struggle against FETÖ and separatist ideologies. Some individuals known for their ties to FETÖ are not on the list.

Others: Türker Ertürk (retired admiral), Hanefi Avcı (retired police officer), Ömer Zengin (Sinan Ateş’s friend).
Currently, a significant portion of the defendants, from Tolgahan Demirbaş to Emre Yüksel, and the suspects, from Olcay Kılavuz to Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım, are from the MHP and Ülkü Ocakları management. It is noteworthy that the MHP is complaining not about these individuals whose names are involved in the murder, but about those who are questioning the murder. The MHP management is clearly trying to prevent the murder from being discussed. On the other hand, if the court had accepted this request and summoned 154 people, the testimony process alone would have taken years. Thus, the outcome of the Sinan Ateş murder trial would have become even more uncertain. Ultimately, the petition is not trying to settle accounts with the murder, but to settle accounts with those who are settling accounts.
12PUNTO ALSO TARGETED
Among the names included in the appendix of the petition are 12punto journalists Caner Taşpınar and Ersin Eroğlu, legal expert Ruşen Gültekin, and researcher/academic Onur Alp Yılmaz.
