Phone call from Kalın following Özgür Özel's MIT allegations: 'Gathering information' claim

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel stated in a speech following the commemoration ceremony for writer and publisher İlhan Erdost at Karşıyaka Cemetery on Thursday that he had heard "someone" from the Presidency had instructed the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) to "involve the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in the investigations as well."

Political circles were stirred following this statement by Özel. While almost everyone was waiting for the steps to be taken after this announcement, a notable development occurred.

Journalist İsmail Saymaz reported on the latest developments during a live broadcast on Halktv.

Here is what happened between the MIT and Özgür Özel:

"Following CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's MIT statement, I called ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş. He responded to these allegations by saying, 'I also heard this from our Chairman; no such information has reached me.'"

Yavaş continued his statement by saying, "MIT President İbrahim Kalın called CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and told him that he would provide a briefing regarding the developments that have taken place."

In my conversation with intelligence sources, I also asked about the allegations in question and wanted to learn whether they were gathering information against Mansur Yavaş. The sources I spoke with categorically denied the allegations in question. They even stated that they were uncomfortable with such allegations being made. They noted that such an instruction would not exist in their working methods.

They said that this accusation directed at them was distressing.

"It disturbs all of us that such an institution of the state is left under suspicion," they say, and they demand that evidence be shown if such information exists.

KALIN WILL VISIT ÖZEL

Saymaz stated that İbrahim Kalın had called Özgür Özel and would subsequently call Mansur Yavaş. Saymaz continued his sentences as follows: "Another issue is that MIT President Kalın had gone to the AKP Headquarters and briefed the President regarding the FETÖ issue.

Kalın's visit to the AKP building was also criticized. Upon this, Kalın said, 'Wherever the President is, we go there.'

Kalın and Özgür Özel met that day, and Özel requested in writing that the same information be provided to him as well.

However, no information has been provided since October 29. When I asked my sources about this, they said, 'Since that date, there have been many events both outside and inside the world, and therefore a schedule could not be created, but the MIT President will provide the necessary briefing on this matter as soon as possible.'"
