Pickpocket steals phone from young woman enjoying night out in Cihangir
A pickpocket who targeted a young woman enjoying a night out with her boyfriend in Cihangir stole her mobile phone in the blink of an eye. The individual was caught red-handed by police officers from the Beyoğlu Public Security Bureau.
The incident occurred in Beyoğlu Cihangir around 03:30 on Sunday of the previous week. According to the information obtained, an individual approached Melis M., who was out enjoying the night with her boyfriend. The individual, who was drinking alcohol from a bottle in his hand, followed the couple's movements for a while. Seeing that the couple was distracted with each other, the individual seized the opportunity and stole the young woman's mobile phone in the blink of an eye. The individual then continued to drink alcohol and quickly walked away. The moment of the incident was captured on camera.
CAUGHT RED-HANDED
After realizing her phone was missing, the young woman went to the police station to file a complaint. While investigations were ongoing, one week later, the same individual stole the phone of Mehmet Emre B. using the same method. Acting on the young man's report, police officers from the Beyoğlu Public Security Bureau arrived at the street where the incident took place. While conducting a search in the area, the police became suspicious of an individual who began acting nervously upon seeing them.
REVEALED TO BE THE SAME INDIVIDUAL
The police stopped the individual who was trying to flee and, while conducting a body search, the suspect threw the phone he was carrying under a motorcycle. Noticing this, the Beyoğlu Public Security Bureau police officers retrieved the phone and, upon inspection, determined that it belonged to Mehmet Emre B. Following this, the pickpocket was taken into custody. In the review of the camera footage conducted by the police, it was determined that the same individual was the person who had stolen Melis M.'s phone.
ARRESTED AND SENT TO PRISON
The detained suspect, Ahmet S. (50), was taken to the police station. It was revealed that the individual, whose statement was taken and judicial proceedings were completed, had 12 prior criminal records. Ahmet S., who was referred to the courthouse, was arrested by the court on charges of "pickpocketing" and sent to prison.
