Planes face difficult moments: Pilot's conversation with the tower recorded
Planes experienced difficult moments in the air due to strong winds and the risk of turbulence affecting Istanbul airspace in the evening hours. The words of a pilot, "Sir, there is a lot of turbulence right now, the air is shaking us a lot," were captured in the recordings.
Strong winds that increased in intensity starting in the evening hours in Istanbul are negatively affecting air traffic.
Planes approaching for landing at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport were forced to circle in the air to avoid being caught in the strong winds and to avoid risking the flight.
Planes that had to circle continuously to avoid turbulence and were approaching fuel critical levels were forced to divert to nearby airports, primarily Izmir.
"THERE IS SEVERE TURBULENCE"
During this time, the conversation between the pilot of a plane descending for landing at Sabiha Gökçen Airport and the air traffic control tower while circling in the air was captured in the recordings.
While the tower controller was providing information to pilots regarding the wind, the words of a pilot circling in the air, "There is severe turbulence, we are turning to the right," were captured in the recordings.
Upon the tower's request to hold to the right for a while, the pilot said, "Sir, the air is shaking us a lot right now," and continued to circle in the air to avoid being caught in the turbulence.
