Police do not forgive 'school attack' prank: 17-year-old high school student detained

Following school attacks, security sensitivity in schools has increased across Turkey, and an incident in Zonguldak has put the police on alert.

A 17-year-old high school student, B.T.A., shared a photo in a WhatsApp group, referencing the attacks in other provinces.

Following reports and the posts, the Zonguldak Police Department's Juvenile Branch teams took action under the instructions of the Zonguldak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and detained B.T.A. During a search of the suspect's home, 6 blank cartridge pistol rounds were found inside a closet in his room. The mobile phone believed to have been used by B.T.A. in the incident was also seized for forensic digital examination.

He defended himself by saying, "I wanted to make a joke, the bullets are souvenirs"

It was learned that B.T.A., who was taken into custody, defended himself during his preliminary interview at the police station by saying, "I was joking." Claiming that he sent the post in the WhatsApp group to play a prank on his friends, B.T.A. alleged that he brought the bullets found in his room from his village as a 'souvenir'.

He was referred to the disciplinary board for setting off a firecracker in class

On the other hand, the suspect's disciplinary record also drew attention. It was revealed that B.T.A. had previously attended another high school but was referred to the disciplinary board for setting off a firecracker in the classroom and was subsequently transferred to the high school he currently attends.

The suspect, B.T.A., whose processing at the Juvenile Branch continues, is expected to be referred to the courthouse.
