Police file criminal complaint over 'strip search' and 'torture' allegations

The General Directorate of Security (EGM) has published a statement on its official website regarding allegations that strip searches and torture are being conducted during detentions.

The statement announced that a criminal complaint has been filed with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against individuals who have brought such allegations to the agenda.

The following statements were used in the announcement shared by the EGM:

"Those who insulted our President under the guise of the Palestinian cause and engaged in an open provocation against the institutions of our State have now, on the 180th anniversary of the founding of our Turkish Police Service, staged 'strip search' and 'torture' slanders in front of a police barricade.

The individuals, who did not raise these allegations in their statements taken in the presence of their lawyers, have embarked on a dirty perception operation against our Turkish Police Service, which is the guarantor of the peace and security of our nation.

In the reports provided by doctors for the individuals who raised the torture allegations, it is clearly stated that 'no signs of battery or force were found' and that they 'had no active complaints.' A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT has been filed with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the provocateurs who voiced these baseless allegations and those who spread the slanders, under the articles of the Turkish Penal Code titled; 'Publicly Spreading Misleading Information,' 'Degrading the Turkish Nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, and the Institutions and Organs of the State,' and 'Slander.' These vile campaigns directed at our State, our nation, and our police will never be allowed to pass. Respectfully announced to the public."
