Police intervention against the Private Sector Teachers' Union!

Private sector teachers from all across Turkey gathered in Ankara. Police intervened harshly against members of the Private Teachers' Union who wanted to march to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

The police informed the members of the Private Teachers' Union that they needed to leave the area.

The following statements were made in the press release issued by the union:

''We gathered here today in front of the Ministry of National Education to voice our many demands once again. Teachers who respond to their union have come together here. What brings us together is also a lie that has been told. The struggle we have been waging against the minimum wage system for 2 and a half years has been understood and embraced by society, and the bosses have been cornered.

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin mentioned 3 formulas during our meeting in February. He himself stated that the base salary, along with other fringe benefits, would be included in the Teaching Profession Law (ÖMK) and that private sector teachers would receive their rights. There is a lie here. We gathered here today to stand against this lie and to throw the lie back in the face of the one who told it. We see that Yusuf Tekin, who does not leave the table of the employers' associations, is not here today.''
