In Diyarbakır, police intervened in a march that included HEDEP members of parliament, protesting the denial of family and lawyer visits for PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and detained 50 people.
POLICE ENCIRCLEMENT
The group, which included members of parliament from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP), intended to hold a march and a press statement from the HEDEP provincial building in the Yenişehir district to Koşuyolu Park in the Bağlar district. During this time, HEDEP Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan and numerous members of parliament were surrounded by police.
SIT-IN PROTEST HELD
HEDEP MPs George Aslan, Zeki İrmez, Beritan Güneş, Adalet Kaya, Ceylan Akça, and Newroz Uysal initiated a sit-in protest on Sunay Street. The MPs, who held the sit-in, later marched toward the HEDEP provincial building in the Ofis district. Tensions rose as the group confronted police at the park.
Approximately 50 people within the group were detained by police.
Police security measures in the area are ongoing.
