Police officer beaten to death after vehicle fails inspection at TÜVTÜRK: Statement released

The incident occurred on February 2 at the TÜVTÜRK vehicle inspection station in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara. Police officer M.O.K. took his vehicle to the station for a routine inspection but failed because a brake light was not working. A dispute subsequently broke out between M.O.K. and the station staff.

THEY BEAT THE POLICE OFFICER

It was alleged that after the argument escalated into insults and threats, M.O.K. was beaten by the station staff.

The police officer, who was taken to the hospital by medical teams called to the scene, was placed in intensive care. In connection with the incident, Y.K. and S.A. were detained on February 3 on charges of 'intentional injury', 'threats', and 'insult'.

1 PERSON ARRESTED

According to the report by Ekran Haber, M.O.K., who received treatment for 3 days in the intensive care unit of Gazi Hospital, lost his life despite all medical interventions. Among the suspects referred to the courthouse as part of the investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Y.K. was released under judicial control, while S.A. was arrested by the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace.

STATEMENT FROM TÜVTÜRK

Following the incident, a statement was released by TÜVTÜRK.

The statement included the following remarks:

"We are deeply saddened by the incident that took place at the Ankara İvedik Vehicle Inspection Station on 02.02.2026 and was reflected in the public domain.

According to the information obtained, it has been determined that the employee in question engaged in an unacceptable physical intervention during a dispute that occurred in the parking area following the inspection process between vehicle owner Police Officer Melih Okan Keskin and Saruhan Atasoy, who was employed at our station on the date in question. Our company does not tolerate violent behavior under any circumstances, and following the identification of the incident, the employment contract of the relevant employee was immediately terminated.

Following the incident, the parties were referred to law enforcement units, and a judicial process was initiated. It was learned with great sadness that Melih Okan Keskin fell ill and applied to the hospital later that same day, and passed away on 05.02.2026.

The investigation process conducted by the Council of Forensic Medicine to determine the exact cause of death of the late Melih Okan Keskin is ongoing, and the matter is being evaluated in all its aspects by judicial authorities. The former employee in question, Saruhan Atasoy, has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation, and the legal process is continuing.
