Police violence in Antalya: Investigation launched after footage of assault

An allegation regarding motorcycle police teams serving in Antalya's Kepez district has caused a major stir on social media. Footage showing a police officer from the Motorcycle Police Team Command in the Varsak Ayanoğlu neighborhood assaulting two citizens has spread online.

Following the public outcry caused by the footage, the Antalya Police Department issued a statement on the matter.

Police authorities announced that the police personnel alleged to be involved in the incident have been suspended from duty. The statement also shared that an administrative investigation has been launched against the personnel in question.

The statement included the following remarks:

"Immediate action has been taken regarding the footage circulating on social media and various digital platforms concerning the unacceptable behavior of a police officer on duty in the Varsak Ayanoğlu neighborhood of Kepez district toward citizens. The personnel in question have been suspended from duty, and an administrative investigation has been launched against them. All stages of the process are being followed with sensitivity."
