Political party posters removed in Adana: 'It has gotten out of control'
Election posters across the city of Adana have been removed following an Election Board decision. Adana Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger stated regarding the posted banners, "This situation has gotten out of control."
Ahead of the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections in Adana, political parties and candidates for neighborhood headman (muhtar) had hung posters on almost all intersections, boulevards, and lighting poles in the city.
Posters hung outside of designated legal areas were removed by the decision of the election board.
"THIS SITUATION HAS GOTTEN OUT OF CONTROL"
Speaking on the matter, Adana Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger said the following:
"There has not been such widespread postering in any other city," said Adana Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger. "A fatal traffic accident also occurred in recent days. In Adana, this situation has gotten out of control. It has been legally determined where and how many posters can be hung during the free propaganda period, which begins 30 days before the election. Hanging posters outside of this is not right. The death of one of our citizens has certainly been a factor in this. All district election boards have taken the decision to have the posters removed. We are implementing this decision together with both our municipal police and security forces."
