Political Scientist Yılmaz: “Turkey is being rendered electionless, republic-less, and democracy-less”
Reactions are mounting against the appointment of a trustee to the Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Presidency. Political scientist Onur Alp Yılmaz emphasized that efforts are underway to render Turkey electionless.
Evaluating the decision to appoint a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, political scientist Onur Alp Yılmaz emphasized that the process represents a critical threshold for the political order in Turkey.
Yılmaz argued that the government has been conducting a “total collapse operation” targeting the CHP for months, and made the following assessment: "The process that began with the cancellation of the Istanbul Provincial Congress will extend to the party convention. Turkey is being step-by-step rendered electionless, republic-less, and democracy-less. CHP cadres must stop debating the gender of angels and see this reality."
Yılmaz stated that the government has mobilized all state apparatuses during this process, while some segments within the opposition have fallen into the delusion of “softening” the government through commission participation.
The political scientist underscored that what is happening is not merely an internal matter for the CHP, but a development that directly concerns Turkey's democratic future.
