Pope Leo XIV has arrived in Istanbul
Vatican Head of State Pope Leo XIV, who is making his first official foreign visit to Turkey, has arrived in Istanbul following his meetings in Ankara. The Pope was welcomed at Atatürk Airport by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül.
Pope Leo XIV, who is paying an official visit to Turkey at the invitation of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has arrived in Istanbul following his meetings in Ankara.
The plane carrying Pope Leo XIV landed at Atatürk Airport at 19:20. The Pope was welcomed by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül. Following the welcome, the Pope departed from the airport.
Accompanying the Pope on his visit are Vatican Secretary of State (Prime Minister) Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary for Relations with States (Foreign Minister) Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, and other officials. The Pope will make several visits in Istanbul over the course of 3 days, including to mosques and churches.
