The spiritual leader of Catholics and Head of Vatican State Pope Francis stated that he is following the tension in the Middle East with concern.
In his statement following the Angelus prayer held every Sunday in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, the Pope expressed his hope that the "bloody and violent conflicts" occurring in the region would not spread further.
Emphasizing that targeted attacks are never a solution, Pope Francis said that such actions only generate more hatred and revenge.
Calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and other areas where conflicts are taking place, the Pope drew attention to the international community's calls for peace and a ceasefire. The Pope's statements were interpreted as a call for a global response to the tension in the region.
