Evaluations regarding the political future of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who resigned from the CHP, continue.
According to a report by the pro-government Türkiye Gazetesi, CHP officials stated that the possibility of Yavaş returning to the party in the future has not been completely ruled out. Reminding that Yavaş had parted ways with the party in the past and later returned, the executives pointed out that conditions in politics can change.
"PERHAPS HE WILL COME BACK AGAIN LATER"
CHP executives recalled that Yavaş became a candidate in 2014, resigned in 2016, returned to the CHP in 2018, and was elected Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in 2019.
The officials commented, "It is not right to calculate tomorrow's plans today. Conditions in politics change, and people can come together again. Mr. Mansur became a candidate in 2014, resigned in 2016, came back in 2018, and was elected in 2019. You never know what will happen; perhaps he will come back again later."
"WE DO NOT KNOW IF THE PARTY ASSEMBLY WOULD ACCEPT A RETURN THIS TIME"
However, it was noted that a potential return might not be as easy as the previous process. The officials said, "We do not know if the Party Assembly would accept his return this time. No one can know for sure who will be there under the conditions of that day or what structure the party will have."
"HE WILL REMAIN IN POLITICS"
Yavaş's words in his resignation statement about "uniting at the grassroots, not at the top" were also evaluated in CHP circles. Party executives stated that this expression indicates Yavaş will not withdraw from politics entirely, adding, "If he hadn't said these words, it would have been said that he had retired completely."
Some officials argued that Yavaş could act on a common ground with different political actors in the coming period and open a new space for himself in politics.
On the other hand, CHP officials stated that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu did not want Yavaş to leave the party. The executives said, "Mr. Kemal did not want Mr. Mansur to leave, but Mr. Mansur did not do anything to stay either."
