President Erdoğan: Ethiopia is our brotherly country

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali made significant statements.

Highlights from Erdoğan's statements are as follows:

Ethiopia is not just a brotherly country for us, but also an extremely important partner with a leading role in Africa.

In the meetings we held with the Prime Minister and his delegation, we comprehensively discussed our relations in many areas, primarily trade, investments, energy, mining, agriculture, communication, and education. We consulted on how we can utilize the existing potential more effectively and how we can reach our 1 billion dollar trade volume target.

We are pleased to be the second-largest investor country in Ethiopia. With the investments of over 200 of our companies, which have reached a total of 2.5 billion dollars, employment is provided to approximately 20 thousand of our Ethiopian brothers and sisters. To date, Turkish contracting firms have undertaken 15 projects worth a total of 2.6 billion dollars in areas such as railways, transportation, factory construction, tourist facilities, and energy transmission lines. We hope that these figures will increase even further in the coming period.

We attach great importance to strengthening our centuries-old relations with the friendly people of Ethiopia. Ethiopia also holds a special place in terms of Islamic civilization. The tomb and mosque in the village of Negash, known as the first Muslim settlement in Africa, are important symbols of our cultural ties.
