President Erdoğan meets with journalists for iftar

Erdoğan hosted journalists and writers for an iftar program at the Presidential Complex. Many figures from the media world attended the event, which saw high participation.

President Erdoğan made important statements after the iftar.

Here are the highlights from Erdoğan's remarks:

I am very pleased to share the same table with you and to host you at the home of the nation. Welcome to our Presidential Complex, this veteran venue. On behalf of myself and my nation, I would like to express my gratitude to all media workers who perform their duties with great effort and devotion in our country and abroad, sometimes risking their lives.

I congratulate the Ramadan of the members of the press who pursue not only news but also accurate and reliable information. I congratulate all our journalists and writers on the upcoming Ramadan Feast in advance. I pray for God's mercy upon our veteran professionals who added significant value to our press with their news, writings, and principled stances, but who are unfortunately no longer with us.

"I COMMEMORATE WITH UTMOST RESPECT THE 275 HEROIC JOURNALISTS WHO WERE MARTYRED"

I pray for God's mercy upon Murat Keklikçi, the senior reporter and editor of Sabah newspaper who passed away this morning, and upon the journalists who added significant value to our press but are unfortunately no longer with us. In particular, I commemorate with the utmost respect the 275 heroic journalists who were martyred while trying to announce Israel's genocide in Gaza to the world. I would like to thank our Directorate of Communications for this beautiful gathering.

As you know, journalists and writers constitute the memory of society in a sense. Recording the hot developments of the day and carrying the intellectual traces of the age we live in to the future requires great responsibility. This responsibility manifests itself sometimes in a news sentence, sometimes in a headline, sometimes in a column, and sometimes in a book that will be read for many years.

These blessed days hold a special meaning and importance, especially for members of professions that pursue the truth, such as journalism and writing. You make very important contributions to the intellectual climate of this society with your pens, your words, and your labor.

You perform a vital public service by criticizing when necessary, questioning when necessary, and appreciating and encouraging when necessary.

You are also fighting against disinformation, which has become the bane of our age, getting to the source of the news, and acting with sensitivity to convey the most objective and reliable information to our nation. You put your lives on the line so that society can access verified news, sometimes in the heart of wars and hot conflicts, sometimes in crisis and disaster zones, and sometimes in the most challenging terrain and climate conditions.
