President Erdoğan said 'we are soaring,' IYI Party's Çömez refuted it with figures: 'Your official sources say so'

In his speech at the parliament, Turhan Çömez leveled criticisms based on the rhetoric of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who had stated, "We have now entered a period of soaring." Stating that according to UYAP data, there are 25 million enforcement and bankruptcy files in Turkey, Çömez said the following:

"We are talking about a terrifying figure, 25 million. I wonder how many enforcement and bankruptcy files have been opened since the beginning of the year, since the period when Mr. Erdoğan said, 'We are soaring.' I am not the one saying this, your official sources are. 2.5 million; that is, there has been an increase of 2.5 million enforcement and bankruptcy files since the period he said 'We are soaring,' and when we look at the daily figures, it is at least 20 thousand, on average 25-30 thousand.

Every single day, enforcement and bankruptcy files are being opened. In the period we say 'We are soaring.' Well, what about non-performing loans? Look, when we look at the history of the Turkish economy, when we look at past periods, a crisis came and institutions collapsed, a crisis came and banks collapsed, but unfortunately, in this crisis that has become chronic for years, the citizen is collapsing, the citizen is going bankrupt.

When we look at the figures regarding individual debt, we are faced with an incredible picture.

Look, I am talking about individual debts that have been pursued by banks in the last four years, the debts of individuals.

In 2022, it was 27 billion; today, in this period of 'soaring,' it is 274 billion. I repeat, 274 billion in individual loans under enforcement proceedings, I am not talking about companies. This is a very serious collapse, a very dire and extremely serious picture."
