President Erdoğan: Stability in Syria means stability in the region

Here are the highlights from the statements made by AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan:

-This is not Israel's first attack on Lebanon; there have been similar provocations in the past. At this point, everyone must see that the security of Lebanon cannot be evaluated separately from the stability of the region. Our region cannot find peace without a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Anyone who thinks they can increase their security by massacring civilians is in a dire situation.

-Turkey has stood behind Lebanon against Israeli aggression and has continued its humanitarian aid. I congratulate Mr. Mikati for the leadership he has shown during this difficult period for his country. We held today's consultations in light of this background. Pressure must be maintained by the international community for Israel to compensate for the destruction it has caused.

-We discussed the necessary steps to be taken to develop cooperation between Lebanon and Turkey. We also evaluated the developments in Syria comprehensively. As two important neighbors of Syria, we are in agreement on acting together. Stability in Syria means stability in the region. Lebanon has also hosted our Syrian brothers and sisters.

-The establishment of a permanent administration where all segments are represented is also important for the countries of the region. We have stated what our stance is regarding separatist ambitions since the first day. Throughout this entire process, we will stand by the Syrian people. I would like to convey this message to our Syrian brothers and sisters from here: this is a period that must be spent in unity and reconciliation. As Turkey and Lebanon, our common goal is to get Syria back on its feet.
