President Erdoğan: We are conducting diplomacy for Iran

AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan spoke at the "Atatürk International Peace Prize Presentation Ceremony for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres" at the Beştepe People's Exhibition Hall.

Highlights from Erdoğan's remarks are as follows:

We continue to keep the principle of "Peace at home, peace in the world," inherited from Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, at the center of our foreign policy by blending it with a proactive, bold, and enterprising approach.

We have been one of the strongest supporters of the founding values of the United Nations, which represents the common conscience of humanity, the will for global solidarity, and hope for the future, for eighty years.

"WHEREVER THERE IS PAIN, WE ARE TRYING TO ALLEVIATE IT WITH ALL OUR MIGHT"

We are carrying water to extinguish fires wherever they may be, especially conflicts, wars, oppression, and humanitarian crises in our region. Wherever there is pain, drama, tragedy, or tears, we are trying to alleviate it with all our might.

Mr. Guterres was a politician who prioritized peace, dialogue, and prosperity even before taking on this important duty, which he has performed with great success for 9 years. As the Prime Minister of Portugal, he made unique contributions to the increase of prosperity and the entrenchment of democracy in his country, and won the appreciation of his people with his constructive and conciliatory political style.

During his 10-year tenure as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, he exerted superior efforts to ensure that displaced persons were treated and protected in a manner befitting human dignity. I believe that Mr. Guterres's conscientious and determined leadership during this process constituted the stage that carried him to the United Nations Secretary-Generalship.

Dear friends, during Mr. Guterres's secretary-generalship, we have strengthened and deepened Turkey's contributions under the United Nations umbrella in every field. Over the past 10 years, we have been in close dialogue with the Secretary-General regarding issues that threaten peace both in our region and in the world. We have also seen with satisfaction that these consultations and efforts of ours have yielded results, sometimes even under the most difficult conditions.
