AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made significant statements during a joint press conference with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
Highlights from Erdoğan's statements are as follows:
Today, we discussed the ongoing Israeli occupation in southern Lebanon and regional developments with Mr. Aoun. We continue our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of friendly and brotherly Lebanon. For many years, Lebanon has been one of the countries most harmed by being a conflict zone for certain powers in the region. Lebanon is among the countries that would benefit most from the peace, stability, and cooperation environment we aim for in the Middle East.
We are following Mr. Aoun's initiatives. We have also evaluated what kind of contributions we can make. We will continue our support to increase Lebanon's institutional capacity. We will continue our humanitarian and technical aid to Lebanon. We believe that the continuation of the developing dialogue between Lebanon and Syria is beneficial.
It is important that the mandate of UNIFIL, the UN force stationed in southern Lebanon, is completed. As Turkey, we want to take part in all initiatives that will be launched to support security in the region. Our support for the Lebanese Armed Forces will also continue. I would like to thank President Mr. Aoun once again for his visit.
