Prison sentence for Pınar Aydınlar for membership in a terrorist organization

Pınar Aydınlar was arrested and subsequently charged following her detention as part of an investigation into the Peoples' Democratic Congress. During the hearing held at the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court, the prosecutor requested that Aydınlar be sentenced for "membership in an armed terrorist organization."

In her defense, Aydınlar did not accept the charges and requested the removal of judicial control measures and her acquittal. Aydınlar's lawyer, citing decisions by the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court, argued that his client's social media posts should be evaluated within the scope of freedom of expression.

The court sentenced Aydınlar to 6 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of "membership in a terrorist organization."

STATEMENT AFTER THE VERDICT

Speaking in front of the courthouse after the verdict, Aydınlar said, "We do not accept the prison sentence given to me and we will appeal. As an artist who has sung the songs of oppressed peoples for years, I find this decision unacceptable." She also stated that her sentence for propaganda was lifted and that a travel ban had been imposed.
