Prison sentence requested for Eylem Tok and father Cihantimur
The investigation into the incident in Kemerburgaz, Istanbul, where Oğuz Murat Aci lost his life, has been completed. A 10-year prison sentence has been requested for mother Eylem Tok and father Timur Cihantimur, who smuggled their son to the USA after the accident.
A prison sentence of up to 10 years has been requested for 5 suspects, including mother Eylem Tok and father Bülent Cihantimur, who are alleged to have removed suspect Timur Cihantimur from the scene and obscured evidence, on charges of "destroying, concealing, or altering criminal evidence" and "aiding and abetting a criminal."
WITNESS TESTIMONIES IN THE INDICTMENT
According to witness statements included in the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, there were three other friends of the driver in the vehicle.
The indictment also included information that Cihantimur was driving fast and talking on his phone while the vehicle was in motion.
THEY TOOK THE PHONE FROM THE SCENE
It was stated that after the accident, mother Eylem Tok arrived at the scene with Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu, picked up her son Timur Cihantimur and his friends, and left the scene.
It was noted that during this process, no alcohol test was performed on the driver, and his official statement was not taken.
The indictment stated that the mobile phone belonging to one of the injured, İbrahim Gümüş, was found at the scene, taken by Zekai Hakkı Dorum, later given to Kerem Ataç, and left on the wall of the Kemer Country site.
It was assessed that the site security took the phone into custody; meanwhile, suspects Adem Kızıltepe and Eylem Tok, along with Demir Orhan Öcalgiray's mother Berna Öcalgiray, arrived at the site, and that Tok and Kızıltepe acted together to take the phone, which served as evidence, and that this action constituted the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering criminal evidence."
FATHER CAME HOME AND THEY LEFT IN SEPARATE VEHICLES
According to the indictment, after the accident, mother Eylem Tok took her son Timur Cihantimur to her home. Upon being notified of the situation, father Bülent Cihantimur also came to the house. According to camera recordings in the file, the suspects stayed at the house for a while and then set off in vehicles.
While Bülent Cihantimur and Timur Cihantimur got into the same vehicle, Eylem Tok and Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu followed them in another vehicle.
They stopped on the road to transfer luggage; subsequently, Timur Cihantimur, Eylem Tok, and Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu went to the airport and traveled first to Egypt and then to the United States.
While the suspects did not return to Turkey, it was stated that an arrest warrant was issued for Eylem Tok and a red notice was published.
FATHER CİHANTİMUR'S DEFENSE REFUTED
Bülent Cihantimur's defense that "I was not aware of the escape plan" was not accepted by the prosecutor's office.
The reason given was that this defense contradicted the findings that the parties made preparations at the same residence, set off together, and performed a luggage transfer on the road.
REQUEST FOR UP TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON
In the indictment, a prison sentence of up to 10 years was requested for 5 suspects, including Eylem Tok and Bülent Cihantimur, on charges of "destroying, concealing, or altering criminal evidence" and "aiding and abetting a criminal."
